Postcard From Ria - Our European Adventure - Miles and Smiles Away

Welcome to our mini travel blog series. Our friend, colleague and guest blogger Ria, hangs up her 9-5 to go travelling around Europe with her partner. They will be exploring each country in their newly renovated camper van that the two of them constructed together. Check out the first chapter of their great adventure together...

Hi Guys!

We are currently 2,650 miles, 9 countries, and 1½ months into our six-month camper-van journey across Europe! We've covered most of the mainland so far. Starting in France then onto Belgium, Luxembourg, Prague, Germany, and Switzerland to name a few! Now, we are currently travelling across Hungary. 

Germany has to be a real winner for us so far! We've had some of our hottest days here. It’s been just our luck that the Germans have some of the most beautiful and incredible swimming lakes, with the clearest water to cool off in. From the biggest lake in Germany (Lake Constance), we travelled on to Munich, where they have the biggest Beer hall in the country. We experienced their famous Steins (3 pints in one glass). German beer is a very lethal substance, especially four Steins in!

All in all, we have stayed in some amazing places so far! Including vast open lakes, secluded river banks, and large forest areas. As well as some of Europe’s incredible cities, and we still are yet to experience our first beaches of the trip!

One of the stranger camp spots we found ourselves in, was right in the middle of the beautiful Black Forest in Bavaria. However, our first night there we were so tired from driving, that we stopped next to the river for the night, where we found ourselves the neighbours to a very large private 'Swingers' club, that was very strange. 

So far in Hungary we have visited Budapest.  Whilst we were there, we tried out the oldest outdoor thermal spa baths. It was 35-degree heat outside, and with a pool temperature of 40-45 degrees! However, it was surprisingly refreshing would you believe? We are now travelling through more of their mainland country, before we leave for the next destination. 

We will then be heading straight down to the coast for some much-needed beach hopping in Croatia, Italy and then on to explore what the Greek Islands, Slovenia and Montenegro have to offer. 

The trip has not disappointed so far and we cannot wait to experience what else it has to offer.
