Inside Tinie Tempah's 'Youth' Pop-up in Shoreditch, London
Posted on 11 April 2017

Tinie Tempah (English rapper and song writer) held a pop-up in Shoreditch to celebrate his new album 'Youth' coming out on 14th April 2017. The pop-up was based around his upbringing in London, so each room took you through a different experience of Tinie's life throughout the 90's. He recreated his bedroom, local market stalls that he would visit regularly, a chicken shop, a barber shop, an arcade and a listening room.
The whole experience felt like a blast from the past. Tinie's bedroom emulated every bedroom I came across in the 90's! The old skool televisions, the posters on the wall, the lava lamp, oh and who could forget the net curtains...
On closer inspection you got to see all the tech and game consoles. Nintendo 64's, the original Gameboy and an old stereo, paired nicely with some beanbags to sit on! There was also a glass cabinet filled with lots of old trainers. In another were Marty McFly's Nike Mag 2011's, inspired by the film Back To The Future. You could also see Pokemon cards scattered across the bed, as everyone back in school used to collect them.
Moreley's Chicken were there providing fried chicken wings, coleslaw and an apple pie to each visitor for free. MTV also provided some complementary refreshments for the event. It was nice to see an array of local streetwear brands on offer, but the most popular was Marbek, as by lunchtime they hardly had any stock left! There was a variety of arcade games available to play, but sadly no Crazy Taxi or Pacman!
If you remember HMV back in the late 1990’s – early 2000’s you could listen to your favourite albums in there, giving you a preview before you bought it, as online streaming was pretty much non-existent back then! Tinie recreated this listening experience, so that each pair of headphones was connected to a song off of the upcoming album. DJ Andy P was on the decks playing the latest hits for the event. And Celebrity barber 'Slider Cuts' who trims Anthony Joshua, Reggie Yates and Daniel Sturridge was also giving away free hair cuts. If you had the patience to wait over an hour as he was seriously in demand.
All in all the event was extremely well put together, and we wish Tinie good luck for the upcoming release of his album.
